Stefanie Maria “Steffi” Graf (b.1969) is a German tennis player who dominated women’s tennis from the late 1980s till the late 1990s. This winner of 22 Grand Slam singles titles was the World’s No 1 player for a record 377 weeks. Her versatile, hard-hitting style of baseline play earned her the moniker “Fraülein Forehand.”

Born in Mannheim, West Germany, Graf was inspired to make tennis her career by her father, who trained her for many years. She became a professional tennis player at age 13. By 16, she was ranked top women’s player, succeeding Martina Navratilova. In a 17-year professional, Graf won 22 Grand Slam singles titles, including 7 Wimbledon titles. She is the only player to win all four Grand Slam singles titles at least four times each. In 1988, she became the first woman to achieve the Golden Slam by winning all four Grand Slam singles titles and an Olympic gold. Graf retired in 1999.

Graf is married to the American tennis legend Andre Agassi. She has two children and lives in Las Vegas. She runs the Hamburg, Germany-based charity Children for Tomorrow, helping children in crisis overcome trauma from war and persecution.
