Inspirational Quotes by Avi (Edward Irving Wortis) (American Author)

Edward Irving Wortis (b.1937,) pen name Avi, is an American author of young adult and children’s literature.

Born in Brooklyn, New York City, Avi worked as a librarian for many years and started writing for young people when he had his children. His more than seventy books span the range from picture books to teen fiction.

Avi won the Newbery Honor for his adventure novel The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle (1990) about a teenage girl crossing the Atlantic in the 19th century. He received the award again for Nothing but the Truth (1992,) and won a Newbery Medal for his Crispin: The Cross of Lead (2003,) the first novel in the historical Crispin trilogy. A collection of short stories, The Most Important Thing: Stories about Sons, Fathers, and Grandfathers appeared in 2016.
