Gerald Nachman (1938–2018,) fully Gerald Weil Nachman, was an American entertainment journalist and author from San Francisco. He was best known as a humor columnist and television critic.
Born in Oakland, California, Nachman attended Merritt College and San Jose State University. He started writing TV reviews and a humor column for the San Jose Mercury while still a student. Later, he wrote for the New York Post 1964–66, Oakland Tribune 1966–72, New York Daily News 1972–79.
Nachman was noted for his syndicated humor columns “Double Take” and “The Single Life.” He was a columnist and theater critic, reviewing theater film, cabaret, and comedy for The San Francisco Chronicle 1979–93 and appeared on a “Minds over Matter” radio show 1993–2015.
Nachman’s works include Playing House (1978,) The Fragile Bachelor (1989,) and Seriously Funny: The Rebel Comedians of the 1950s and 1960s (2003.)
