Immanuel Hermann von Fichte (1796–1879) was a German philosopher and a prolific author. Born in Jena, he was the son of the German philosopher Johann Gottlieb Fichte. Immanuel taught at Saarbrucken, Dusseldorf, Bonn, and Tubingen.

In philosophy, Fichte was a theist and vehemently opposed to the Hegelian School. His position on metaphysics was that of a moderator between the two contradictory interpretations represented by Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel and Johann Friedrich Herbart, and in the interest of theology. Fichte tried to develop a philosophical basis for the personality of God.
