Inspirational Quotes by Jerry Bock (American Composer)

Jerry Bock (1928–2010,) fully Jerrold Lewis Bock, was an American musical theater composer. He composed a number of Broadway musicals, and was best known for Fiddler on the Roof.

Born in New Haven, Connecticut, Bock studied the piano from an early age and played intricate compositions by ear. He attended the University of Wisconsin and then collaborated with Larry Holofcener on songs for television’s Your Show of Shows and the musical Mr. Wonderful (1956.)

With the composer-lyricist Sheldon Harnick and Broadway musical theatre writer Joseph Stein, Bock had his most notable successes: Fiorello! (1959; Pulitzer for Drama) and Fiddler on the Roof (1964; Tony Award for Best Composer and Lyricist.) Bock and Harnick’s other musicals included The Body Beautiful (1958,) Tenderloin (1960,) She Loves Me (1963,) The Apple Tree (1966,) and The Rothschilds (1966.)
