John Paul Kotter (b.1947) is an American management consultant and academic. He is a renowned thought leader and best-selling author in the fields of leadership and managerial behavior.

Born in San Diego, California, Kotter attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard University. Currently an emeritus professor at the Harvard Business School, he is the founder of the management consulting firm Kotter International.

Kotter is the author of 20 books. His international bestseller Leading Change (1996) is considered an influential work in the field of change management. Among his earlier books, The General Managers (1982) looked at how general managers work and function, and A Force for Change (1990) argued that leadership and management differ.
