Inspirational Quotes by Pedro Almodovar (Spanish Filmmaker)

Pedro Almodóvar (b.1951,) in full Pedro Mercedes Almodóvar Caballero, is a Spanish filmmaker, director, screenwriter, producer, and former actor. He is best known for inventive and colorful melodramatic films that often feature sexual themes.

Born in Calzada de Calatrava, Almodóvar moved to Madrid in 1967, where he worked for a telephone company. He began making films in the mid-1970s and took full advantage of the post-Franco cultural freedom to develop a recognizable personal style, combining provocative, often shocking, subject matters, iconoclastic attitudes, striking use of color, and a playful perspective on the clichés of popular culture.

Almodóvar gained worldwide success with the farce Mujeres al borde de un ataque de nervios (1988, Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown.) Strong female characters feature prominently in his films, which include ¡Átame! (1990, Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down!,) Tacones lejanos (1991, High Heels,) Kika (1993,) and Todo sobre mi madre (1999, All About My Mother,) winner of an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film and a BAFTA for Best Director. His international stature continued to grow, with a Best Screenplay Academy Award win for Hable con ella (2002, Talk to Her) and a Best Screenplay win at Cannes for Volver (2005.)

Almodóvar’s later films include the psychological thriller La piel que habito (2011; The Skin I Live In,) the comedy Los amantes pasajeros (2013; I’m So Excited!,) and the drama Dolor y gloria (2019; Pain & Glory.)
