Inspirational Quotes by Randy Pausch (American Computer Scientist)

Randy Pausch (1960–2008,) fully Randolf Frederick Randy Pausch, was an American computer scientist and academic who delivered the celebrated “Last Lecture,” an inspirational and uplifting testimonial on making the most of life.

Born in Baltimore, Maryland, Pausch earned a bachelor’s degree in computer science from Brown University and a PhD from Carnegie Mellon. After a short stint at the University of Virginia, he returned to Carnegie Mellon and became a professor of computer science specializing in human-computer interaction.

In September 2006, Pausch was diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer during which time he was preparing a speech labeled “Really Achieving Your Childhood Dreams” as a kind of time capsule for his three young kids. Learning that he had only a few more months to live, Pausch retitled his lecture “The Last Lecture,” in keeping with a tradition on university campuses for professors to deliver a “last lecture” to convey lessons from a lifetime of learning and teaching.

Pausch’s “The Last Lecture” delivered an inspiring message of hope, humor, and determination. The speech became a worldwide sensation on the internet. Pausch expanded his lecture to the best-selling nonfiction book The Last Lecture (2008; with Jeffrey Zaslow.)
