Inspirational Quotes by Stefan Zeromski (Polish Novelist)

Stefan Zeromski (1864–1925) was a Polish novelist, dramatist, and poet. He is celebrated for the deep compassion about social problems that he expressed in naturalistic yet lyrical novels.

Born in Strawczyn, Poland, in the Russian Empire, Zeromski worked as a tutor and a librarian. His early poems were published under the alias Maurycy Zych to avoid political censorship.

Zeromski wrote Ludzie bezdomni (1900, ‘Homeless People,’) Popioly (1904; Ashes, 1928,) an epic tale of life during the Napoleonic Wars, Wierna rzeka (1912; The Faithful River, 1943,) about the 1883 national uprising, Walka z szatanem (trilogy; 1916–19; ‘ Struggles with Satan,’) and other books. He was shortlisted for the 1924 Nobel Prize in Literature.

Several of Zeromski’s novels have been filmed, by Walerian Borowczyk (Dzieje grzechu, 1975, “A Story of Sin,”) Andrzej Wajda (Popioly, 1965, “Ashes,”) and Filip Bajon (Przedwiosnie, 2001, “The Spring to Come.”)
