Inspirational Quotes by Vince Lombardi (American Football Coach)

Vince Lombardi (1913–70,) fully Vincent Thomas Lombardi, was an American football coach. One of the most successful football coaches in the history of the game, his proclivity for winning left a strong impression on the game, as well as on players and fans.

Born in Brooklyn, New York City, Lombardi was a distinguished defensive guard in his playing days with Fordham University. As a coach, he started in professional leagues by coaching offense for the New York Giants 1954–59, in spite of having been a defender, but his best work was done with Wisconsin’s Green Bay Packers 1959–69. He helped his team win five league titles and took them successfully to two Super Bowls 1967–68. In 1969, he coached the Washington Redskins.

During his most successful years in Green Bay and even after his death, Lombardi was widely venerated for his views on the virtues of hard work and winning. In 1971, the Super Bowl trophy was named in his memory, and he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

David Maraniss wrote the popular biography When Pride Still Mattered: A Life of Vince Lombardi (1999.)
