Inspirational Quotes by Arthur Wing Pinero (English Playwright)

Sir Arthur Wing Pinero (1855–1934) was an English playwright and actor of the late Victorian and Edwardian eras in England. A leading playwright of the late Victorian and Edwardian periods in England, he wrote many popular farces and sentimental comedies. His serious dramas, including The Second Mrs. Tanqueray (1893,) are credited with advancing dramatic realism and revitalizing English drama.

Born in London, Pinero studied law but, in 1874, made his début on the stage in Edinburgh, and in 1875 joined the Lyceum Company. His first play, £200 a Year, appeared in 1877, followed by a series of comedies.

In 1893, with The Second Mrs. Tanqueray, generally reckoned his best, Pinero began a period of realistic tragedies which were received with enthusiastic acclamation and made him the most successful playwright of his day.

In all, Pinero authored some 50 plays, including The Squire (1881,) The Magistrate (1885,) Dandy Dick (1887) and The Profligate (1889,) and later The Gay Lord Quex (1899,) His House in Order (1906) and Mid-Channel (1909.)
