Clinton Eastwood, Jr. (b.1930) is an American movie actor and director. One of Hollywood’s living legends, his career in motion pictures has spanned five-and-a-half decades. He is acclaimed as a talented actor, an Oscar-winning director and producer, and a gifted composer of scores and soundtracks.

Eastwood’s career as a Hollywood superstar originated when he starred in A Fistful of Dollars (1964,) the first in Italian director Sergio Leone’s trinity of “spaghetti westerns” featuring Eastwood as “the man with no name.” It was a remake of Akira Kurosawa’s samurai classic Yojimbo (1961.) Eastwood then portrayed the renegade San Francisco police detective “Dirty Harry” Callahan in five movies, beginning with Dirty Harry (1971.)

Movies in which Eastwood directed as well as starred include Bird (1988,) Unforgiven (1992,) The Bridges of Madison County (1994,) and Million Dollar Baby (2004.)

Eastwood is also a self-taught jazz pianist and has often composed the scores for his films. He served as the mayor of Carmel, California, 1986–88, and has supported Republican presidential candidates.
