Inspirational Quotes by Muhammad Ali (American Sportsperson)

Muhammad Ali (1942–2016,) born Cassius Marcellus Clay, was an American boxer. He won the world heavyweight title in 1964, 1974, and 1978; he was the only boxer to be world champion three times. He was one of the most recognizable and controversial athletes of all time.

Born in Louisville, Kentucky, Clay began training at the age of twelve and devoted himself enthusiastically to boxing. Clay first gained international attention when he won the gold medal in the light heavyweight division at the 1960 Rome Olympics.

After winning his first world champion title in 1964, Clay joined the Nation of Islām (“Black Muslims”) and changed his name to Muhammad Ali. His religious conversion provoked much controversy in America, precisely because his separatist religious group promoted the superiority of the black race.

In 1967, Ali further enraged Americans when he rebuffed on religious basis induction into the American armed forces during the Vietnam War. His unwavering position resulted in the revoking of his heavyweight title and a conviction for draft evasion. In 1970, the Supreme Court upheld Ali’s appeal against the ban, and Ali took up professional boxing again.

Starting in the 1970s, Ali’s physical skills began to decline; his speech became gradually more slurred. Ali retired because of boxing-induced Parkinson’s syndrome. After his retirement, Ali spent time raising money to fight Parkinson’s syndrome.

Ali (2001,) a critically acclaimed movie starring Will Smith, was made about Muhammad Ali’s life.
